African artist creates colorful masks from recycled trash and waste materials, displayed in a collage of photos and artistic posters.

Toufic Beyhum, then Creative Director at Advantage Advertising, approached me one day. He'd commissioned artist Petrus Shiimi to create three masks out of trash, and wanted to know if I'd photograph them. The idea was simple: have three kids hold the trash masks in front of their faces for a Greenpeace campaign. One afternoon we set up a small studio a black backdrop, some light and worked through various ideas until we landed on the image you see above. Little did we know it would go on to win multiple awards internationally. A proud moment for everyone involved.

Red Bull Illume is one of the world's top action photography competitions, and we were honoured to make it to the finals and into the Illume book, which only comes out every two years, a truly great honour. What makes it even more special: Red Bull's rule was no animals in the photography, since they don't want to be associated with stressing animals out. This image was the only exception that made it through. The rule was also that we may not retouch the final image so what you see except for colour grading actually happened no retouching .
